The Hunger Games Series

I have recently read Book 1 and Book 2 in The Hunger Games Trilogy. The first in the series is The Hunger Games, and the second is Catching Fire. The final book doesn’t have a title or a release date yet.

The author Suzanne Collins came up with the concept of The Hunger Games whilst flicking back and forth between reality shows and news coverage on war.

I heard about The Hunger Games through a FiveAwesomeGirls video, and they always have good book recommendations, apart from Twilight :/

The first book introduces you to a post apocalyptic America, where they are 12 districts and the Capitol, where everyone is bursting full of botox.

Each year the Capitol run The Hunger Games, where a boy and a girl from each district are selected to participate in.

The book follows the two “tributes” from District 12 called Katniss and Peeta from before the tribute selection, to the training and grooming and the actual Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games itself is a large arena where the tributes have to kill each other, and the remaining tribute wins and gets to live. The whole event is televised, and is effectively Big Brother crossed with Gladiator.

Since the Harry Potter series finished, I haven’t read a book that keeps me page turning. I stayed up till 4am to finish it off. Ever chapter provides fantastic pacing, and there is violence and romance which make you devour the book!

Both books are in my top ten books I’ve read this year. They may be Children’s/Teen books, but I recommend it for any ages because of the themes of violence and reality television.

I literally can’t wait till the next and final book is released, and if there is a midnight release in London, I shall be there with my Mockingjay pin!

Edit: There has been an date for the third book: August 24th 2010

  1. Those books do sound good, I had been wondering what they were about as I’ve “heard” you “talk” of them previously. Do all three books have the hunger games in them? that does not sound like a pleasant game.

    • Only 2 of the books have been released, and most of both books have the hunger games in. I won’t say anymore because it could spoil it. Since they are so addictive books, you’ll finish the books really quickly!
